I’ve been active on LinkedIn for years, but my relationship with it changed the day I stopped treating it like a digital CV and started using it like a professional community.

For me, LinkedIn has become much more than a platform for job seekers — it’s a place to build credibility, create opportunity, and stay connected in a fast-moving digital world.

From Social Selling to Social Proof

A few years ago, while leading digital marketing efforts at a previous company, I rolled out a social selling program for our sales team. The goal was simple — help our team build relationships and open conversations through valuable content and genuine engagement. We achieved 10x return on investment within 6 months.

The interesting part? While it was designed for sales, the biggest impact was on me as a marketer.

Here’s what I noticed:

  • I started connecting with decision-makers I’d never reach via email.

  • My network began sharing our company content, extending organic reach.

  • I saw how consistent personal branding built trust faster than any campaign could.

That experience shifted how I view marketing — it’s not just about brand reach; it’s about human reach.

The Real Value of LinkedIn

LinkedIn helps in more ways than people realize:

  • Build Your Network: You don’t need to be in sales to network. Every comment or message can lead to an opportunity.

  • Build Credibility: Sharing insights or even reflections from your work builds trust faster than titles or job descriptions ever could.

  • Stay Connected: As you change roles or industries, LinkedIn keeps your professional ecosystem alive — something that email contacts rarely do.

  • Find Suppliers and Collaborators: Some of my best business relationships started as comments on a post.

If You’re Just Getting Started

If you’re reading this and haven’t yet embraced LinkedIn — start small:

  • Comment thoughtfully once a day.

  • Connect with people who inspire you or challenge your thinking.

In a few months, you’ll notice that you’re not just scrolling — you’re building.

My Closing Thought

LinkedIn has given me more than visibility — it’s given me perspective. It’s where ideas turn into conversations, and conversations into opportunities.

So if you’ve been waiting to “get active” on LinkedIn, don’t overthink it.Start engaging, start sharing, and see where it takes you.
